New trading hours start Sunday

Electronic grain trading hours change again on Sunday evening. While traders say the new hours are a step in the right direction, they don't address the issues raised by the shifting market dynamics of electronic trade.
GME Group's grain and oilseed markets will now open at 7 p.m. Central Time, Sunday to Friday, with a trading halt from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. CT on weekday mornings. Electronic and pit trade will reopen at 8:30 a.m. and close at 1:15 p.m.

The new trading day will be 4.5 hours shorter than the current 22-hour schedule, which CME Group implemented last May. Traders expect the new hours to address some of their liquidity and quality-of-life concerns but note that it doesn't address the underlying issues created by a rapidly evolving market.
