House Republicans on Tuesday morning released the text of their new proposal aimed at getting Democrats to negotiate on 2014 spending levels and the debt ceiling. The GOP released the Deficit Reduction and Economic Growth Working Group Act, H.R. 3273.
The bill sets up a House-Senate working group tasked with agreeing to 2014 spending levels, the debt limit and reforms in entitlement programs. It says the group would be made up of 10 members each from the House and Senate, and requires them to be appointed one day after the bill is signed into law. It also requires them to meet one day after members are appointed.
The GOP also released the text of the Federal Worker Pay Fairness Act, H.J.Res. 89. That bill is meant to ensure federal workers who are working during the shutdown are paid promptly.
The House Rules Committee is set to meet on both proposals at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 9.
