At the end of September, NAEDA received notice from Representative Giovanni Capriglioni (R-District 98) that he was considering introducing Right to Repair legislation in the 2025 Texas legislative session. We were contacted as part of a stakeholder information gathering process to inform potential legislation.
This week, NAEDA submitted comments to Representative Capriglioni. You can view our position statement by following the link HERE.
It is our understanding that the focus of the legislation is primarily on household consumer electronics, however we don’t want to leave anything to chance. We have requested a follow-up meeting with the representative and offered to host a dealer demonstration to show the self-repair offerings available under the Memorandums of Understanding.
We have also requested an exemption for off-road equipment and pointed out that every state which has passed a Right to Repair bill has included our industry exemption, except for Colorado.
We will keep you updated on the status of this potential legislation leading up to the 2025 session, which begins on January 14th. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.
