House Bill 1483Â was introduced yesterday in the Washington legislature. The Right to Repair bill is sponsored by Representative Mia Gregerson (D-SeaTac), who has authored similar bills since 2018.
As you know, our industry had previously been exempted from Washington Right to Repair bills until last year when our exemption language was removed from the bill. NAEDA worked hard to educate legislators and restore our full off-road industry exemption language in this year’s iteration of the bill.
Representative Gregerson was very deliberate in working with NAEDA and other industry stakeholders to understand the MOUs and self-repair offerings available and accessible in the marketplace today. We are appreciative of her collaborative approach to this issue.
HB 1483 only applies to household consumer electronics and has been referred to the Committee on Technology, Economic Development, and Veterans. We will continue to monitor the bill and update dealers if any substantive changes occur.
