A bill to update New Mexico’s equipment dealer statute was introduced Wednesday. Senate Bill 194 is a bi-partisan bill sponsored by Senator Sanchez (R) and Senator Gonzales (D). This is the same bill introduced in 2023 that passed committee but failed to pass out of its chamber of origin. By introducing this bill early in session, we are hoping to get it across the finish line this year.
The bill provides for termination notice and procedure requirements, transfer of business processes, and expands the scope of the Act to include construction, industrial, and outdoor power equipment. The bill updates New Mexico’s statute to be consistent with what is required under Oklahoma and Texas laws currently. You can read our position statement on the bill below.
