Oregon began its short session yesterday, and as expected, a Right to Repair bill was introduced. The bill’s primary sponsor is once again Senator Janeen Sollman (D-Hillsboro). However, SB 1596 contains our industry exemption language that was inserted in last year’s bill.
Even with the exemption language covering our members, we will be closely monitoring the bill for any amendments. We’ve had good communication with the bill sponsor’s office in the past and don’t anticipate an ambush amendment that brings us back in. The short session is also in our favor. This year will only be a 35-day session focused on budget issues rather than policy.
