The legislature moves quickly sometimes. We alerted you yesterday to another Right to Repair bill in the Washington Senate, SB 6276, that was scheduled for a hearing. After contacting the committee members and sponsors of the legislation, they agreed to accept our industry exemption language in the new bill substitute.
The amendment makes clear the legislation is not applicable to farm equipment and many types of other equipment. The exemption language is broader than farm equipment because it represents all members of the Illegal Tampering Coalition that NAEDA spearheads.
With the exemption language, NAEDA will be neutral on the bill and will not be providing testimony in tomorrow’s hearing. We advise any dealers who already signed up for testimony to not testify as well. Thank you to the dealers who engaged on this issue and came out fast and strong against these early legislative efforts. That is what made all the difference.
